The Gran Chaco Foundation was selected to participate in the triangular cooperation initiative that seeks to promote digital transformation in indigenous communities in Argentina, Ecuador and Panama. This project, supported by various organizations and communities in Latin America, aims to share knowledge and strategies for digital inclusion and sustainable development.
Through a consulting process, the specific needs of these communities in relation to digital transformation will be analyzed. The Gran Chaco Foundation will share the lessons learned through its initiative Nanum, which has achieved excellent results in reducing the digital divide in isolated indigenous communities in Argentina.
The objective is to design a digital transformation strategy for indigenous communities focused on land management, sustainable development, climate change risk management, environmental and cultural preservation. Through cooperation between academic entities, indigenous communities and local organizations, the aim is to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), in particular to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and the SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).
This approach is aligned with the priorities of the Window FORWARD 2024 and the pillar of the Global Gateway in Latin America and the Caribbean on inclusive digital transformation, as well as cross-cutting approaches to gender equality and environmental preservation. The University of Salzburg will provide training in Geographic Information Systems Sciences (GIS), contributing its experience in this area. These trainings will be key to designing a digital transformation strategy focused on land management, sustainable development, risk management in the face of climate change, and environmental and cultural preservation.
One of the fundamental pillars of this initiative is the generation of knowledge of the territory with a focus on Human Rights. This seeks to reduce inequalities and discrimination against indigenous communities in decision-making, promoting inclusive participation of women. Access to disaggregated and transparent information will allow these communities to diagnose environmental problems, risks and vulnerability to climate change, and develop digital skills to find effective solutions.
This triangular cooperation initiative aims to share knowledge and develop tools that strengthen digital capacities in indigenous communities, promoting inclusive and sustainable local development. Communities are participating in the diagnostic process by connecting from the Nanum centersThe inclusive digital transformation of indigenous communities will empower them, improve the management of their territories and face the challenges of climate change and gender inequalities.
The alliance for digital development
The Triangular Cooperation Alliance is made up of the Association of Municipalities of Indigenous Peoples of Panama (AMPIP), the indigenous communities of Argentina with the help of Gran Chaco Foundation and the Noaike indigenous community of Ecuador as beneficiary entities. These organizations work closely with the Ean University from Colombia, as the first bidder, and with the University of Salzburg from Austria and FORWARD 2 as second bidders, all committed to sharing their experience in the development of innovative digital tools.
