The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations granted the Gran Chaco Foundation special consultative status, a recognition of relevance to the region and its communities. The decision, adopted by the ECOSOC Following the recommendation of the Committee of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), it marks a milestone in the appreciation of our work and the relevance of the entity in the international arena.
This status allows the Gran Chaco Foundation to actively participate in a variety of UN bodies and activities, including ECOSOC, the Human Rights Council and General Assembly meetings. It also grants the right to designate official representatives at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Geneva and Vienna. These representatives may participate in UN sessions, events, conferences and activities, acting as observers at public sessions of ECOSOC and its bodies.
The consultative relationship with ECOSOC allows Gran Chaco to be consulted on specific issues in which it has specialised competence. This includes the possibility for the Council or one of its organs to seek information or specialised advice from the Foundation. In addition, the commissions and other subsidiary bodies of ECOSOC may request the Foundation to carry out studies, research or prepare relevant documents.
With this status, the Gran Chaco Foundation will also be able to consult officials from the relevant offices of the UN Secretariat on issues of mutual interest. In addition, the UN Secretary General himself may consider requesting the Foundation to carry out studies or prepare documents that contribute to the goals and objectives of the international organization.
This recognition recognizes our commitment to the sustainable development of indigenous and rural communities in the Gran Chaco region. This special consultative status not only strengthens our capacity to influence global policies, but also expands our platform to promote local solutions to global problems.
