It is an international cooperation initiative aimed at assessing the effective exercise of the human rights enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples through data management and application (“from data to action”). It focuses on community training, obtaining Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC), conducting participatory community surveys (on topics such as biodiversity, climate change, and due diligence), and uploading, validating, and publishing this data on the Indigenous Navigator (NI) portal.
Indigenous Navigator – From Data to Action: Realizing Indigenous Self-Determination
Objectives
1) Availability of High-Quality Data: Ensure that reliable, high-quality data and documentation on the rights and development of Indigenous Peoples are available to help realize their rights. This will be achieved through community-level experts who upload information about their situation.
2) Policy Advocacy and Sustainable Development: Ensuring that knowledge products and evidence-based documentation (generated through the NI) influence key human rights and sustainable development processes at the local, national, regional, and global levels.
3) Participation and Advocacy: To promote the active and meaningful participation of Indigenous Peoples in advocacy, development, and policy-making processes aimed at shaping national policies (in areas such as due diligence, gender, climate, biodiversity, and the SDGs).
