beekeeping

In the Gran Chaco, beekeeping has a history that spans from the extractive practices of indigenous communities for consumption, beverage formulation, medicinal use, among other purposes. In recent decades, there has been a significant development and expansion of this activity driven by the ecological possibility of producing a healthy, rich, and natural sweetener in an environment with unique characteristics. In this new context, the development of beekeeping incorporates modern principles, becoming a significant income generator for communities. Family beekeeping enterprises have emerged, selling their products in local markets as well as nationally and, in some cases, internationally, depending on the level of organization they have achieved.

Objectives

How do we do it?

Within the framework of the strategic alliance with El Futuro Está En El Monte, our focus is on strengthening producer associations, developing projects, facilitating access to credit, providing access to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for business scaling, and promoting adaptation to climate change.

We propose a resilient beekeeping approach by combining Ecosystem-based Adaptation with Community-based Adaptation (ABC). This involves valuing the knowledge, wisdom, and experience that local communities have acquired to address climate-related challenges.
